Our Comenius Project

A Comenius Project was set up at Sir Thomas Rich's in 2005 to further develop our links with different countries and their culture. Joan Amos Comenius (1592-1670) was an educator who worked for peace and unity between nations. Comenius is part of the EU education programme, Socrates, which aims to promote European co-operation through joint curriculum-based projects. Our Comenius partner schools are the Tsanko Tserkovski Secondary School in Polski Trambesh, Bulgaria and the Scuola Statale "Cavour" in Modena, Italy. Essentially we shall be focusing on exchanging information concerning cultural heritage and our vision of the future of European citizenship. The language of communication for the project is Esperanto.

About Esperanto

This is the Esperanto Flag. It is green to represent peace, and the star has a point for each of the world's five continents. Esperanto is an artificial, international language devised by a Polish man called Zamenhov, in 1887. There are some 2 million speakers worldwide, including several at Sir Thomas Rich's!
